In honor of this Cancer New Moon, which is also a Solar Eclipse, I want to invoke water. My dictionary offers this definition: invoke - to call in prayer or as a witness. Yes, that is about right?prayer and witness. I want to pray with and for water and I want to be a witness for water, water in me and around me. I want to witness how water teaches, how water behaves, how water gives. I want to witness how the water in me also teaches, flows, and gives. Water is precious. It is important to be aware of, to witness in fact, how we treat water. I also believe that our capacity to identify with water and to be in relationship with water will determine the quality of our lives in the world we are creating. If we can invoke in prayer and witness the wonder of water, we will enhance our ability to live sustainably on this earth in joy and compassion. It is that important.
I want to invoke water and I am frustrated by this medium of writing. Instead I want to sit beside water and listen. I want to lie down and travel into the water of my own cells. I want to feel the weight of the organs in my body and the rhythm of my pulse as blood flows through my veins. I want to smell rain and taste spring water flowing from the ground. I want to sit silently by the ocean and weep. This Cancer Moon pulls on me like the tides. I want to ?feel the buoyancy,? as the poet Rumi has written. So I invoke and offer this invocation to you. How will you witness water?
A Solar Eclipse is an opportunity to release old ways of seeing and open to the next way of seeing. The opportunity to awaken is always present, yet eclipses can give us an extra push. I?ve noticed that life seems more intense lately. The stakes seem higher. That can create stress but also excitement. What new leaps of consciousness are coming? How can we live the lives we long to live? How amazing will the dream become? All of these feelings and thoughts become an invocation as well. What will you allow to happen next in your life?
The Sun and Moon come together at 19� Cancer at this New Moon. The only aspect they make is an encouraging sextile to Mars in Virgo. Three planets in Virgo, the sign of holistic healing, support intentions for bringing order and health into our lives. Mars helps us to act on the New Moon intentions. Saturn is finishing its two and a half year transit of Virgo. (Due to retrograde motion, Saturn entered Libra in October 2009 and went back into Virgo in April 2010.) We can look back over Saturn?s transit through Virgo to see the ways we have responded to the lessons of this sign. Healing has been one of them.
Venus and Chiron. The third planet in Virgo is Venus. Venus helps us to soften the hard edges, to invite in beauty. Venus is opposing Chiron, the shaman and healer, at 0� Pisces. On May 3 astrologer Mary Plumb wrote beautifully about Chiron?s entry into Pisces on the same day of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster, ?April 20 was Chiron?s entry into Pisces, the day of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion. Chiron is the shamanic journey, the wisest teacher, and the traveler out of ordinary time. Pisces?s greatest strength is to open the doors of perception, and, if conditions are lined up, can bring a glimpse of interconnectedness.? She went on to wonder what this wound on the ocean?s floor has to teach us. Venus touches this wound. Aphrodite, Venus?s Greek counterpart was birthed in sea foam. Again, it seems that the question, ?How will we witness water?? is important to what we need to learn at the moment. Venus is the teacher. This goddess offers us a heartfelt response to immense pain. Perhaps it is time to ?let the guilt go? so we are free to act.
The planets and their dance become the co-conspirators of our intentions. The dance this month continues to build on the lessons of the t-square of planets at the beginning of Cardinal signs.
The Cardinal t-square with Saturn, Uranus, Jupiter and Pluto. A t-square is a powerful triangle of planets occurring in 3 out of the 4 signs in the same modality (Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable). A grand cross fills in the missing sign and so may provoke a resolution of tension or may simply add another element of stress. We begin the month with a t-square that will be filled in by the transiting Moon in Cancer the evening of August 6. Throughout the month, we will feel the building momentum of this energy, which may climax in the first week of August.
To recap the energies of these transits:
Saturn opposite Uranus. These two have been opposing each other since November 2008 from the Mutable signs, Virgo and Pisces. Finally, this very long-lasting transit will complete this month when both will be at 0� of Cardinal signs. Uranus in Aries and Saturn in Libra. Essentially we are being asked to integrate revolution with responsibility, not an easy tightrope to walk.
Pluto in Capricorn. Since 2008 Pluto has been uncovering dysfunction in our systems of business and finance. Infrastructure seems to be crumbling. In spite of fear, true healing and power will emerge. Our work is to be ready to transform.
Jupiter in Aries. Jupiter moves more quickly than the other planets in the t-square but has a great ability to inflate experiences. Jupiter entered Aries in June and will station retrograde exactly square to Pluto on July 23. This is a time for transformative action.
The Full Moon on July 25 will be one of several crescendos this month. In addition to the t-square, there are two other configurations called Yods in the chart for the Full Moon. An apex of a Yod points to a planet that is under stress to understand the incomprehensible. One apex is the Sun; the other is Chiron. Full Moons are usually illuminating; this one may be even more so. Chiron points to shamanic healing lessons. The Sun to lessons about purpose and life-force. In addition to the two Yods, another configuration called a Mystic Rectangle is forming. This involves the Sun and Moon opposition forming encouraging sextiles to the Jupiter/Uranus and Saturn opposition. In honor of this Cancer New Moon, which is also a Solar Eclipse, I want to invoke water. My dictionary offers this definition: invoke - to call in prayer or as a witness. Yes, that is about right?prayer and witness. I want to pray with and for water and I want to be a witness for water, water in me and around me. I want to witness how water teaches, how water behaves, how water gives. I want to witness how the water in me also teaches, flows, and gives. Water is precious. It is important to be aware of, to witness in fact, how we treat water. I also believe that our capacity to identify with water and to be in relationship with water will determine the quality of our lives in the world we are creating. If we can invoke in prayer and witness the wonder of water, we will enhance our ability to live sustainably on this earth in joy and compassion. It is that important.
I want to invoke water and I am frustrated by this medium of writing. Instead I want to sit beside water and listen. I want to lie down and travel into the water of my own cells. I want to feel the weight of the organs in my body and the rhythm of my pulse as blood flows through my veins. I want to smell rain and taste spring water flowing from the ground. I want to sit silently by the ocean and weep. This Cancer Moon pulls on me like the tides. I want to ?feel the buoyancy,? as the poet Rumi has written. So I invoke and offer this invocation to you. How will you witness water?
A Solar Eclipse is an opportunity to release old ways of seeing and open to the next way of seeing. The opportunity to awaken is always present, yet eclipses can give us an extra push. I?ve noticed that life seems more intense lately. The stakes seem higher. That can create stress but also excitement. What new leaps of consciousness are coming? How can we live the lives we long to live? How amazing will the dream become? All of these feelings and thoughts become an invocation as well. What will you allow to happen next in your life?
The Sun and Moon come together at 19� Cancer at this New Moon. The only aspect they make is an encouraging sextile to Mars in Virgo. Three planets in Virgo, the sign of holistic healing, support intentions for bringing order and health into our lives. Mars helps us to act on the New Moon intentions. Saturn is finishing its two and a half year transit of Virgo. (Due to retrograde motion, Saturn entered Libra in October 2009 and went back into Virgo in April 2010.) We can look back over Saturn?s transit through Virgo to see the ways we have responded to the lessons of this sign. Healing has been one of them.

Chiron is the shamanic journey, the wisest teacher, and the traveler out of ordinary time. Pisces?s greatest strength is to open the doors of perception, and, if conditions are lined up, can bring a glimpse of interconnectedness.? She went on to wonder what this wound on the ocean?s floor has to teach us. Venus touches this wound. Aphrodite, Venus?s Greek counterpart was birthed in sea foam. Again, it seems that the question, ?How will we witness water?? is important to what we need to learn at the moment. Venus is the teacher. This goddess offers us a heartfelt response to immense pain. Perhaps it is time to ?let the guilt go? so we are free to act.
The planets and their dance become the co-conspirators of our intentions. The dance this month continues to build on the lessons of the t-square of planets at the beginning of Cardinal signs.

ABC News launched an investigation into BMW vehicles that are equipped with twin-turbo engines for problems concerning the fuel pumps of these vehicles. New Moon March 15, 2010: Standing at the threshold
Liminal - Occupying a position at, or on both sides of a threshold.
The year is a wheel of seasons. The word ?year? actually means season. Most pagans divide the year into eight turnings of the wheel?in essence, into eight seasons or holidays. These include the four solar holidays, occurring in the Cardinal signs. Aries - Spring Equinox, Cancer - Summer Solstice, Libra ? Fall Equinox , and Capricorn ? Winter Solstice. In between these stations of the Sun fall the other four cross-quarter holidays marked by the Fixed signs. Taurus ? Beltane, Leo ? Lughnasad, Scorpio- Samhain, and Aquarius ? Imbolc. The Cardinal and Fixed signs are well established in this cyclic understanding of the year. The Mutable signs, not acknowledged by holy day, sneak in under the radar and do their job of holding the threshold. The Mutable seasons erase the past while opening to the future. ?Sneaky??only because they do not call attention to themselves?shapeshifting, and sometimes hard to pin down, the seasons of Mutable signs are slippery. They are not all one thing or another.
We are in such a season at this New Moon in Pisces. This water sign washes away the previous Fixed air season of Aquarius to make way for the Cardinal fire sign, Aries. Fixity can be about the things we are reluctant to let go of while cardinal energy urges us to take charge and act for the future. During this transition, it is appropriate to let water guide us in releasing stuck thought patterns to prepare ourselves for springtime energy. This season, water is the keeper of the threshold. She even has a Mystery School dedicated to awakening the compassionate trickster in all of us. In her trickster manifesto, Casey exuberantly writes, ?The race is on, that dynamic beauty and sane reverence may supplant the dominance of dunder-headed-despotic dementors of doom,?and that adorable and ingenious life may bloom in profusion once again on the other side of this bottle-neck towards which we are all racing.? The compassionate trickster is a potent archetype for these times. With both Uranus, a promethean trickster, and Mercury, a hermetic trickster, conjunct this New Moon in compassionate Pisces, we are poised to investigate this archetype as well as invoke it into our lives. Uranus is making its way out of Pisces where it has been since 2003. Now is the time to acknowledge the role that compassion plays in our cultural revolutions. Compassion no longer needs to mean passivity or self-sacrifice. We can claim our roles as instigators of compassion.
At the Full Moon, the Sun has entered Aries and the expansive energy of Spring is underway. The waves of Pisces are but a dream. This Full Moon triggers the ongoing energy of Pluto square Saturn. Those with planets or important points in the chart around the beginning degrees of the Cardinal signs, should pay attention at this Full Moon to what is being asked of you. Cardinal signs set down new patterns. People with this energy exhibit leadership, foolish courage, and creative force. They ask about the next steps. Cardinal elements. When the Sun enters Aries on March 20 away we go into Aries territory. We will have crossed the threshold. New patterns are laid down through the will and action of fire. Not until after the Full Moon on March 29 will this energy slow down. On March 31 Venus enters Taurus. Languid and sensual, the earth element is reinforced. Taurus can act as a brake on Aries impulsivity. On April 6, Pluto stations retrograde. This is the yearly turning of Pluto back towards the underworld. The pull to depth and transformation is strong. The next day, Saturn moves back into Virgo where it will stay until July 21. With Pluto in Cardinal earth, Venus in Fixed earth and Saturn in Mutable earth, we have access to all expressions of earth wisdom as the lunar month winds down.
Spring weather is unpredictable, one moment can be warm and the next can feel like Winter again. Staying present, we are able to attune our senses to subtle shifts. At the Full Moon, the Sun has entered Aries and the expansive energy of Spring is underway. The waves of Pisces are but a dream. This Full Moon triggers the ongoing energy of Pluto square Saturn. Those with planets or important points in the chart around the beginning degrees of the Cardinal signs, should pay attention at this Full Moon to what is being asked of you. Cardinal signs set down new patterns. People with this energy exhibit leadership, foolish courage, and creative force. They ask about the next steps. Cardinal elements. This year, three Cardinal signs color the transformations happening in the world through important outer planet transits: Aries through the element of fire, Libra through the element of air, and Capricorn through the element of earth. Since Mercury will trine Mars, which is finally moving forward after being retrograde for three months, our minds will feel the urge to speed up. The next day, Mercury opposes Saturn and squares Pluto. We may say or think things that are born of frustration and deep emotion. When the Sun enters Aries on March 20 away we go into Aries territory. We will have crossed the threshold. New patterns are laid down through the will and action of fire. Not until after the Full Moon on March 29 will this energy slow down. On March 31 Venus enters Taurus. Languid and sensual, the earth element is reinforced. Taurus can act as a brake on Aries impulsivity. On April 6, Pluto stations retrograde. This is the yearly turning of Pluto back towards the underworld. The pull to depth and transformation is strong. The next day, Saturn moves back into Virgo where it will stay until July 21. With Pluto in Cardinal earth, Venus in Fixed earth and Saturn in Mutable earth, we have access to all expressions of earth wisdom as the lunar month winds down.
Spring weather is unpredictable, one moment can be warm and the next can feel like Winter again. Staying present, we are able to attune our senses to subtle shifts. This lunar month will offer shifting energies within and around us. One day may be receptive and dreamy, the next impulsive, while the next grounded and stable. New Moon June 22, 2009: Summertime
Astrology is a wonderful tool for deep self-exploration and personal intention-setting. It is also useful in looking with a dispassionate eye at the mundane world of governments and leaders.
The Summer Solstice chart (the Cancer Ingress Chart) informs us about the mundane issues that are important to our civic lives. Such a chart can answer questions like, How will the economy do this season? How will President Obama lead the country over the next three months? What public sectors ask for more attention at this time?
Summer Solstice. The chart for the Summer Solstice set for Washington, DC has an Aries Ascendant. Coincidentally, the Spring Ingress chart for Washington also had Aries rising. The tone is one of taking action, leading the way. The ascendant on a mundane chart set for that country?s capital describes the nation?how the rest of the world perceives us. Along with displaying leadership we may be perceived as aggressive or willing to fight for our point of view. Mars, the chart ruler is in stubborn Taurus, the sign of Mars? detriment. Our leadership may feel heavy-handed or simply out of touch. However, I am intrigued by the conjunction of Venus in her own sign, Taurus, with this Mars. Mars and Venus have been traveling together for an extended period of time due to the recent retrograde motion of Venus. Venus has been moving much slower, at Mars? speed. These two have had quite a conference, first in Aries and now in Taurus. The tryst is about to end now that Venus is speeding up again. Perhaps the god of war taught the goddess of love a bit about his direct approach while they were both in Aries and now she instructs Mars in the ways of beauty and delight in her own sign of Taurus. Perhaps the lessons of will and pleasure will help us all to be better leaders in the world.
Venus and Taurus also rule the economy. Venus being strong in her own sign and applying to a harmonious trine with Saturn in Virgo, is an indication that there may be more stability in the economy this season. It would be a good thing to take this strong Venus/Saturn connection into action around what we need for sustainability and wholeness. Saturn?s transit through Virgo has called attention to health, holistic living, and stewardship of the Earth. Progress may be made in these areas this summer because the only aspect Saturn is making in this chart is that trine to Venus and Mars.
The trine between Venus/Mars and Saturn also describes President Obama this season, since Saturn rules the 10th house, which describes a country?s ruler or leader. The major problem here is that things may move slowly for Obama with Mars being in Taurus, but these planets contribute a feeling of security, stability, and effectiveness.
The Moon in these charts describes the people of the nation. The Moon is In Gemini and is conjunct Gemini?s ruler, Mercury, in the second house. It looks like the people are hungry for information, especially information that will help them create sustainability and economic stability ? issues that pertain to the 2nd house.
The most difficult aspect in the Summer Solstice chart is the opposition between the Sun and Pluto. Pluto unveils toxic secrets and rules the 8th house of debt. The Sun represents conscious identity and rules the 5th house that pertains to, among other things, the stock market. There is a link between the speculation of the 5th house and the debt we are holding. Will those who are responsible for our economic mess be held accountable? Will we find the will to create new laws and regulations that could prevent such abuses? Uranus is the revolutionary force that is squaring Pluto and the Sun. This square from Uranus is a hint of stronger revolution to come when this planet moves into Aries in May 2010. The times are indeed changing.
The trio of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron in Aquarius are perfectly located in the 11th house-the Natural House for Aquarius. Past boundaries of separation are dissolving in our communities and organizations. Jupiter takes this even further; perhaps we are experiencing more unity throughout the world. Although I am not sure where the Internet fits into the mundane house system of astrology, a good case could be made for the World Wide Web fitting into the 11th house. Social networks are a new frontier. However, as a culture, we seem to be more enamored with the latest cell phone technology than we are with the idea of doing the hard work that will help us solve some of our crucial problems. Neptune always presents us with the latest and most enticing illusions. Connection to others is valuable; new toys may distract.
The New Moon this month occurs a day after the ingress of the Sun into Cancer. Therefore most of the same qualities for the Solstice chart hold true for the New Moon chart. The Sun and Moon this month face off with Pluto, and both sides of the opposition are forming a square with Uranus. At the beginning of this lunar month it may be hard to grasp the calm energy of Venus/Mars in Taurus trine to Saturn. We may be facing off into our own oppositions, which seem to evoke power plays about who is in control (Pluto provokes these responses.) This New Moon in Cancer is a time to honor our feelings. How we feel about our beloveds, how we feel we are being treated, how we feel about the downtrodden, how we feel about our feelings. If we are feeling a little reactionary, it could be that Pluto and Uranus want to take these natural and normal feelings and place them on a much bigger stage where it may think they mean so much more. This lunar cycle is a time to understand how feelings are important and how they can get blown out of proportion sometimes.
The square between Mercury and Saturn in the new moon chart invite us to try and explain, discuss and reach better understandings with others. This will be good work this month.
The Full Moon will be a penumbral lunar eclipse?an eclipse so barely an eclipse that it will not be visible to the naked eye, according to NASA?s excellent Eclipse Web Site . Still we may sense a shadow falling over the Full Moon?s brilliance this month. Energetically, eclipses are times when we may be set suddenly upon new paths. This Full Moon occurs in the middle of the opposing signs of Cancer and Capricorn. These two signs are about ways we manage, parent, tend or defend what we cherish. Capricorn means business. What ways do we need to embrace the true seriousness of our global situation? What are ways we need to take responsibility? This Full Moon may illuminate that for us. The triple conjunction of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron (see here for more about this) are squared by Mars in Taurus. Last month, Mercury was in this position. The message has been sent by Mercury that our boundaries are merging in both wonderful and perhaps alarming ways. Now Mars will invite us to take action.
The harmonious trine from Saturn to the Moon and the encouraging sextile to the Sun seem to offer a brief respite from the overly-critical nature of Saturn in Virgo. We can feel that Saturn is actually on our side. Now is a really good time to take stock of all the Virgo things you have taken on since September 2007 when Saturn entered Virgo. Virgo-approved activities are: organizing your life, initiating and maintaining personal practice?especially those practices that improve your health, service actions, and honing one?s knowledge about any topic. In August, Saturn will enter the last decan of Virgo (the last third of the sign). The final push to acquire all these Virgo lessons will really heat up then.
Summertime can be a wonderful time to take a break, change our schedules, find ourselves doing work that feeds our bodies or hearts. Soak in the Sun?s blessings this season and have a good summer.

BMW is recalling approximately 130,000 vehicles for failure of the high-pressure fuel pump. Affected models include the 2007 to 2010 335i series, the 2008 to 2010 135i, 535i and X6 xDrive35i Sports Activity Coupes and the 2009 to 2010 Z4 Roadster sDrive35i. ABC News launched an investigation into BMW vehicles that are equipped with twin-turbo engines for problems concerning the fuel pumps of these vehicles. Some 130,000 BMW's may experience a failure of the high pressure fuel pump which may cause it to shake, vibrate and unexpectedly slow down while driving. New Moon November 16, 2009: Daring to Dream
I hear a call
it comes from far away
I know not where it leads
I?ll follow to my destiny.
Come away human child
Come away to the greenwood
See wonders great and wild
You always knew that you could.
These words are from a familiar chant in the Pagan communities I belong to. We sing these words to evoke the sense of mystery and destiny that arises when we follow our dreams into the unknown. Astrological themes of the moment may remind us about the wonder and fear that can come from hearing the call and following it into destiny.
We live in small circles and big circles simultaneously. In the small circle of our individual lives we may experience disappointment and disillusionment about dreams and destiny, which have no relation to the effect of these very same dreams on the large scale, that bigger circle of co-creation of our world and realities. A personal failure can still be a global success. How odd is that truth, and how painful.
I belong to a community of dreamers who have been fortunate enough to have been led into wonders great and wild by two extraordinary dreamers?Cynthea Jones and Patricia Storm of Diana?s Grove. The Grove is undergoing profound transformation at this time. Recently, Patricia wrote: ?Our (unrealistic) dream was to create a sanctuary where people could come to experience the world of nature free from the distractions of modern city life. We dreamed of a place to be in touch with the natural elements and to honor wind, fire, water, and earth. We also dreamed of a community of people striving to find ways to heal self, world, and relationships.? This dream led them to create a Mystery School founded on this land and this dream. After 16 years of tending the land and creating this dream, they are finding it harder to sustain it economically and have decided to sell the land. The Mystery School will continue but their intention is to pass the land onto others who will have the same magical connection to it.
This might seem like failure on the small scale. Those demons of self-doubt rise up whenever we give ourselves wholly to a dream, but these women know a thing or two. And in spite of demons, they are still willing and ready to serve the dream. On the large-scale, on the level that is hard to fathom and can only be felt, Mystery continues to unfold; the ripples touch unseen shores. What wonder would never have existed in this world if they had not followed this dream?
This story, this event, surely a small-scale event in the big realm of things, is an example of the energies that the celestial mirror is reflecting back to us right now. This energy begs us to ask these questions of ourselves: What dreams have I followed to my destiny? Am I currently lost along the way? Am I experiencing the pain of disappointment on the small-scale level of reality? Or am I excited for the journey ahead? Am I engaged with the call of the unknown and what is possible from daring to dream? The triple conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune? a fairly rare occurrence (last time it happened was in 1945)?has been slowly, over the past few months, developing new dreams while exposing the raw vulnerability of passing dreams.
During the lunar cycle that begins on November 16, these energies come to the forefront of collective experience.
THE NEW MOON chart shows a square aspect between the Moon/Sun and the triple conjunction. The relationship between the two signs, Aquarius (Neptune, Chiron and Jupiter) and Scorpio (Sun, Moon) is one of tension. Aquarius has a heady, cerebral approach to dreams and Scorpio looks under the rocks for the real feelings and shadows attached to them. At the New Moon, we can set intention to integrate our heads with our hearts. On a deeper soul level, the realm that Scorpio loves, we need to acknowledge our feelings of grief surrounding the death of dreams and our desires to control the outcome. We simply can?t control the dream. We can only follow it to our destiny.
Following to our destiny sometimes takes the courage as well as the foolishness of the hero. Mars is a good representation of the hero. This planet shows our passions, desires and ways we will pursue those desires. Every two years, Mars embarks upon the hero?s journey when it turns retrograde. Mars will be stationing retrograde on December 20 at 19� Leo. Right now, as Mars begins to slow down and station at that degree, this planet opposes the triple conjunction in Aquarius. This is an important stage where we are able to integrate into action the dreams these planets are weaving.
A Mars transit is often a trigger for release of energy connected with astrological patterns. For instance, whatever our stage of dreaming ?from the hope of new beginnings to the grief of failure, to recommitment?Mars can trigger a response, an event, a conflict, or new insight that makes us take action. This month we may find ourselves needing to take action on behalf of our dreams. And service to our dreams may ask us to take the next heroic step in our own journeys.
This Mars journey lasts through the winter. In March, the month named for this planet, Mars turns direct at 0� Leo. Then, one by one, Mars will oppose these planets in the triple conjunction, which will have moved apart a bit. Neptune will be in Aquarius, Chiron in Pisces and Jupiter in Aries. These words are from a familiar chant in the Pagan communities I belong to. We sing these words to evoke the sense of mystery and destiny that arises when we follow our dreams into the unknown. Astrological themes of the moment may remind us about the wonder and fear that can come from hearing the call and following it into destiny.
We live in small circles and big circles simultaneously. In the small circle of our individual lives we may experience disappointment and disillusionment about dreams and destiny, which have no relation to the effect of these very same dreams on the large scale, that bigger circle of co-creation of our world and realities. A personal failure can still be a global success. How odd is that truth, and how painful.
I belong to a community of dreamers who have been fortunate enough to have been led into wonders great and wild by two extraordinary dreamers?Cynthea Jones and Patricia Storm of Diana?s Grove. The Grove is undergoing profound transformation at this time. Recently, Patricia wrote: ?Our (unrealistic) dream was to create a sanctuary where people could come to experience the world of nature free from the distractions of modern city life. We dreamed of a place to be in touch with the natural elements and to honor wind, fire, water, and earth. We also dreamed of a community of people striving to find ways to heal self, world, and relationships.? This dream led them to create a Mystery School founded on this land and this dream. After 16 years of tending the land and creating this dream, they are finding it harder to sustain it economically and have decided to sell the land. The Mystery School will continue but their intention is to pass the land onto others who will have the same magical connection to it.
This might seem like failure on the small scale. Those demons of self-doubt rise up whenever we give ourselves wholly to a dream, but these women know a thing or two. And in spite of demons, they are still willing and ready to serve the dream. On the large-scale, on the level that is hard to fathom and can only be felt, Mystery continues to unfold; the ripples touch unseen shores. What wonder would never have existed in this world if they had not followed this dream?
This story, this event, surely a small-scale event in the big realm of things, is an example of the energies that the celestial mirror is reflecting back to us right now. This energy begs us to ask these questions of ourselves: What dreams have I followed to my destiny? Am I currently lost along the way? Am I experiencing the pain of disappointment on the small-scale level of reality? Or am I excited for the journey ahead? Am I engaged with the call of the unknown and what is possible from daring to dream? The triple conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune? a fairly rare occurrence (last time it happened was in 1945)?has been slowly, over the past few months, developing new dreams while exposing the raw vulnerability of passing dreams.
During the lunar cycle that begins on November 16, these energies come to the forefront of collective experience.
THE NEW MOON chart shows a square aspect between the Moon/Sun and the triple conjunction. The relationship between the two signs, Aquarius (Neptune, Chiron and Jupiter) and Scorpio (Sun, Moon) is one of tension. Aquarius has a heady, cerebral approach to dreams and Scorpio looks under the rocks for the real feelings and shadows attached to them. At the New Moon, we can set intention to integrate our heads with our hearts. On a deeper soul level, the realm that Scorpio loves, we need to acknowledge our feelings of grief surrounding the death of dreams and our desires to control the outcome. We simply can?t control the dream. We can only follow it to our destiny.
Following to our destiny sometimes takes the courage as well as the foolishness of the hero. Mars is a good representation of the hero. This planet shows our passions, desires and ways we will pursue those desires. Every two years, Mars embarks upon the hero?s journey when it turns retrograde. Mars will be stationing retrograde on December 20 at 19� Leo. Right now, as Mars begins to slow down and station at that degree, this planet opposes the triple conjunction in Aquarius. This is an important stage where we are able to integrate into action the dreams these planets are weaving.
A Mars transit is often a trigger for release of energy connected with astrological patterns. For instance, whatever our stage of dreaming ?from the hope of new beginnings to the grief of failure, to recommitment?Mars can trigger a response, an event, a conflict, or new insight that makes us take action. This month we may find ourselves needing to take action on behalf of our dreams. And service to our dreams may ask us to take the next heroic step in our own journeys.

The Horror, The Horror (Movies)
Previously, I blogged about how the placebo effect is at work when you watch a horror movie. As part of my... research for this post I watched quite a lot of them. Here are my thoughts on some recent ones. Roughly in order of best to worst. Some minor spoilers, but nothing worse than you'd get from the trailer.The Last Exorcism - Very scary, and full of surprises. The trailer makes it look like a shameless clone of The Exorcist; it isn't. Gets Neuroskeptic bonus points for the opening bit where the hero, a preacher who's lost his faith, talks about how he keeps doing "exorcisms" because it's psychologically helpful i.e. a placebo effect.The Broken - Inventive, intelligent and creepy. A woman starts seeing her own doppelg�nger after a car crash. Neuroskeptic bonus points for mentioning Capgras syndrome, a classic neurological disorder. Well worth watching.The Signal - A mysterious TV glitch sends people crazy. But who's actually affected, and who's just been sent crazy by the fact that everyone else is going crazy around them? A clever twist on the zombie apocalypse genre, and manages to be both frightening and funny.Carriers - An airborne Ebola virus wipes out almost everyone. Four teens try to escape. The characters and acting are pretty blah, but the concept is good, and it's well produced.Dread - Student film-makers decide to make a documentary about people's worst fears, but one of them is a psychopath, so they end up making a Saw movie. Good, if a bit predictable.The House of the Devil - An attempt at the kind of anticipation-horror that I talked about in my past post - nothing really happens, but the build-up is tense. Up to a point. Then it goes on for another half hour and gets tedious. Missable.Tell Tale - Pretty standard slasher, except that the serial killer... is an internal organ! Actually not all that bad, but nothing special.Mutants - Zombies attack survivors holed up in a hospital. In France. Extremely generic, there is no point in watching this if you've seen, well, any other zombie movie from the past 5 years.Mulberry Street - "They're rat people, they're f-king rat people!" Some virus strikes New York, turning people into rat people. Who are also psychopaths. More funny than scary, unintentionally. Apparently this was done on basically zero budget: what's disappointing is that it comes across as quite polished despite that - the budget isn't the problem, the script is.
